ADVOCACY - PUBLIC INFLUENCE

Awards Programs

Georgia credit unions and their leadership do good things, and in order to celebrate their good works both CUNA and GCUA have designed a variety of national and state recognition awards. For more information, click the links below.

CUNA National Awards

Beginning in 2015, credit unions have submitted their award entries via an online portal created by CUNA. As in years past, entries are first judged at the state level. CUNA then judges the state winners.

Credit unions have the ability to save, come back later, pay and submit entries via the web portal. Photos, videos, social media links and any other documentation can be included.

Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award and Desjardins Adult Financial Education Awards

These awards are named for Alphonse Desjardins, who founded the first credit unions in Canada and the U.S. and pioineered youth savings clubs. The Desjardins program recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for all ages. The recognition program considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of members and non-members, including, but not limited to, face-to-face teaching using proprietary materials and curricula, such as the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP), as well as financial literacy leadership efforts.

Georgia Credit Union League Awards

The Georgia Credit Union League honors exceptional credit union leaders at the League Annual Convention each year. Nominations are received for the Moses C. Davis Professional and Volunteer of the Year Awards from among affiliated credit union CEOs and chapter leadership. The Eloise Woods Distinguished Service Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award are nominated by League board members. A nominating committee will review the nominations and the  League board will be presented with at least two nominations per position except in the case of the Moses C. Davis Volunteer of the Year. For the Volunteer of the Year Award, the Awards Nominating Committee will present no more than two names per district. Criteria for the selection of candidates for these awards has been established and approved by the League Board.

Moses C. Davis Volunteer of the Year and Professional of the Year Awards

The Moses C. Davis Volunteer and Professional of the Year Awards are named for the man who is recognized as the founding father of the Georgia credit union movement. Moses C. Davis was a charter member of Atlanta Postal Credit Union who not only served on the credit union’s board of directors as Treasurer and General Manager, but also became the League’s first Managing Director and National Director. Since the award’s inception in 1985, the Moses C. Davis Awards have recognized the very best volunteers and professionals of the Georgia credit union movement… individuals who have displayed the highest levels of service and professionalism and personify the credit union’s philosophy, “People Helping People.”
