CUNA has officially opened registration and housing for the 2018 GAC. The conference will be held February 25th (Sun) - March 1st (Thu) and will unite thousands of credit union leaders in our nation's capital to demonstrate the strength of our system and advocate for our more than 110 million members. The credit union movement needs the support of lawmakers now more than ever. To earn that support, we need to stand together and send a united message that our members matter.
The GAC is the only time of the calendar year when the full credit union movement comes together as one to march the steps of Capitol Hill to send our members of Congress the message about the importance of supporting credit union priorities. It takes all of us to make a difference.
CUNA GAC offers an action-packed schedule. With keynotes from influential leaders in politics and business, breakout sessions examining key compliance and advocacy topics, and the largest vendor showcase in the credit union industry, there are many chances to learn about key issues and ideas. The time you spend in Washington will also connect you with other credit union leaders from around the country.

Most of the events are held at the DC Convention Center. The Herb Wegner dinner, the GALA and other awards receptions will be held in the main conference hotel, Marriott Marquis, across the street from the convention center. In 2018, CUNA has made a few changes to the 2018 GAC… we will see a new MC this year – Antonio Neves – and network. CUNA heard from numerous participants that they wanted time to take advantage of smaller group activities. To that end, CUNA is not having Late Night at GAC in 2018.
CUNA shows Thursday (March 1st) for continuation of Capitol Hill visits and departures, and it is listed on the schedule and materials, but no formal meetings at the Convention Center will be planned on that day. We will work to coordinate all of the Georgia visits on Wednesday, February 28th. They could go as late as 5:00 or 5:30 pm, so I would discourage folks from planning early departures on Wednesday that could affect turnout for Hill visits. If you plan on leaving Wednesday evening, please make it after 7:30 pm, or consider making your departure early Thursday morning to ensure you are around for Hill visits.
STEP 1 of 2: Register for the conference. Log on to CUNA’s GAC site.
Conference registration and housing (room reservation) require two different steps. To ensure that you can attend all the educational sessions and the exhibitor area, complete the CUNA GAC registration. To get included in the Georgia Housing block, see Step 2 of 2 below.
STEP 2 of 2: Complete the Room Reservation Form, and forward it to GCUA.
Once GCUA receives your completed Room Reservation Form, we will process your room reservation and email your Room Reservation Confirmation to the email address noted on your Room Reservation Form.
Georgia was able to secure its block once again at the Embassy Suites Convention Center. Your credit union usually attends and stays with the Georgia room block. We have until the first week of January 2018 to finalize the room block reservations, so it is now time to complete and forward your Room Reservation Form to GCUA. Rooms go pretty fast, and you don’t want to be left out and unable to reserve the rooms you want or be placed on a waiting list. Once we email your Room Reservation Confirmation, let us know of any name changes, etc., so we can make the necessary changes to your room reservation. The room rate is $309 single/double plus applicable taxes, currently 14.8%.
A major credit card is required for GCUA to reserve your room(s). The credit card will not be charged at the time of the reservation. The card will only be charged if the reservation is cancelled after Friday, December 15, 2017. Room reservations cancelled after Friday, December 15, 2017, will be subject to a one night's room and tax cancellation fee per room. Name changes can be made with no charge.
If you remember last year CUNA changed the housing process, and we are all still in the learning phase... we hope to make the process as uneventful for you as possible!
Crash the GAC
Again in 2018, CUNA, The Cooperative Trust and state leagues (like GCUA) are teaming up to send young professionals to Crash the GAC. One crasher from each state, the District of Columbia, and this year, a wildcard will be chosen. Young professionals are invited to apply by submitting a 60-second video on why he or she should be chosen to Crash the GAC. If you have any young professionals that want to apply for this awesome development opportunity – have them do so soon! Applications can be found at https://fileneresearchinstitute.formstack.com/forms/crashthegac2018 and are due November 28th.
