ACCEL is a program of Green Path Credit Counseling Service. It is a part of the National Foundation of Credit Counseling and is a strategic partner of CUNA. It was developed at the request of credit unions, with credit union input, to provide both reactive help and proactive education to members. ACCEL provides three components of service: one-on-one, on-the-spot phone counseling with members; resources and educational tools (mostly provided online); and additional support services. Credit unions can place a link to the ACCEL Web site on their Web site. (www.Accelservices.org) There, members will find a library of educational articles. Educational newsletter articles are also provided to credit unions at no charge. Credit unions also have access to videos featuring 3- to 5-minute sessions. Additionally, ACCEL provides Budget Smart software that can be co-branded and made available for members to download through a link on the credit union’s Web site. This is a simple budgeting software, designed to be more user-friendly than Quicken and Microsoft Money. (www.budgetsmart.org).

The NEFE HSFPP (National Endowment for Education, High School Financial Planning Program) was developed around a special type of education called performance-based learning. With performance-based learning, students take what they learn and apply it directly in the course of each unit. Carefully designed exercises and activities move the student step-by-step toward each of the seven core competencies that the program teaches. The program is turn key. Workbooks are provided; photocopying is not required. Material is suitable for high school students. Material is detailed and in-depth, and designed to be taught in a school setting. It is presented in a straightforward manner in a more classic text-book format. For more information and to get started, visit http://hsfpp.nefe.org/.
